Outline of Course:
If you enrol as a student for the Basic Course of the Mayo School of Astrology you will be taught the astronomical framework upon which all chart calculations and astrological theories are based. You will learn how to calculate charts for births anywhere on earth, and to interpret these in terms of potential psychological traits.
You will receive a folder containing Instruction Letters, Test Papers, Chart Forms, Ephemeris and Supplementary Literature. You will be placed under a Tutor who will keep in close touch with you, receiving your tests and correcting these fully, explaining mistakes.
After sending time and place of birth (see Enrolment Form), you will receive your own birth chart. This will be as an example of good presentation of work, and also will enable you to verify what you learn, using yourself as an example. You will thus learn to analyse your own chart.
Tuition may begin at any time. You will be allowed to work on test papers at your own pace according to your ability to absorb what is taught. The average time taken to complete the Basic Course is 9 - 12 months, though some students have comfortably completed this in 6 months.
The syllabus for the Basic Course is as follows:
Term 1
You are introduced, in detail, to the meaning and synthesis of the planets, the signs and the houses. This is essential for later analysis work. You will be taught about the astronomical basis of your work and the philosophy of astrology. You will complete and submit 8 Test Papers.
Term 2
This part of the course concentrates on computation. By the end of this term you should have a complete framework of all facts necessary to set up an astrological chart. You will set up and submit 3 full charts in this term.
Term 3
You will now work on a full natal chart interpretation. There will be further calculation practice. You will begin to cover the framework already made, You will learn something of the history of astrology and its relation to modern psychology. Your Test Papers for submitting to your Tutor will include the interpretation of two further charts with case histories supplied. There will be an exercise in the comparison of charts, known as synastry.
You should now be able to think of your knowledge as a system rather than as scattered facts. You should be able to look at an astrological chart with
understanding.
Examinations:
The Mayo School will award a Certificate of Proficiency to any student who has, throughout the basic course, maintained a consistently high standard of work, and who presents the final Test Paper to the satisfaction of a Tutor and the Principal. No fee will be charged - the award is on merit only.
The Mayo School holds a Diploma examination for students who complete the Advanced Diploma Course, and successful candidates will have the right to put D.M.S. Astrol. (Diploma of the Mayo School of Astrology) after their names: there will be an examination fee, but Diploma holders will not be expected to pay an annual subscription.
Further details of both awards will be supplied on enrolment.
At the end of this Basic Course you may enrol for the Advanced Diploma Course. This is designed for more advanced study and, as with the Basic Course, test papers are set and all possible help and correction is given by your Tutor.
