The tremendous success in the astrological field throughout the world of many hundreds of students who have become top astrologers and writers on astrological subjects, who studied astrology from their raw beginnings with the Mayo Courses, is a glowing tribute to Jeff Mayo’s training methods.
His policy is simple and commonsense. A good astrologer must first be proficient at basic astrological calculations and interpretations, and in the presentation of his or her work. There is no necessity whatsoever for a student to have to spend excessive money and time on learning abstract theories in order to gain a Diploma. The most treasured Diploma is one that is awarded for evidence of sound knowledge and application of basic principles. Any other theories which may stem from these basic principles can be studied and researched separately from the course and should have no connection at all with a Diploma award. Once the basic principles are mastered, the student will be in a better position to discriminate between what may or may not be of personal value among the theories he/she will encounter from the pages of astrological journals.
The Way Forward:
You have completed a Certificate Course and have had the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the basic principles of astrological calculation and interpretation. You are well on the way to developing your abilities for accurate and constructive practical application of astrological theory.
Now that you will be studying the Advanced Course your tutor will expect your work to be even better than your previous efforts. You must endeavour to achieve a professional standard in the presentation of your charting and analysis work, whether as test papers or as private work or practice of your own. You must aim to develop a style of writing and expression which is colourful and will hold the reader’s interest, and which, above all, clearly presents what you want to say. As you work towards achieving this you will find that the conscious effort to improve your style will help you to construct and co-ordinate your own ideas about a particular chart-pattern in a progressively better and more lucid manner.
Practice and yet more practice is the very best and indeed, only way to achieve a high degree of skill and competence in applying and understanding astrological theories. Do not depend on practice only on the test papers set you in this course. Seek your own ways of getting all the experience and practice you can, by calculating and interpreting the charts of friends and relatives or complete strangers. It would be preferable it, after interpreting a practice chart, you were able to discuss what you have written with the person concerned, in order to gain essential feedback.

valuable and well-deserved recognition of Examination.
